Matthew Henson – Black History Month
Discovered The Top Of The World, The North Pole.
A black man named Matthew Henson, along with his fellow explorer, Robert Perry were the first to reach and discover the top of the world, the North Pole in 1909. Explorers had been trying and dying for centuries to accomplish this task. While most of Hensen and Perry’s party had to turn back because of the harsh Acrtic weather conditions, On April 6th 1909, Henson followed by Perry, finally reached their goal. Black history month.
Note (The two explorers; Henson and Perry are buried side by side in Arlington National Cemetery.)
